You know what NFL stands for?

For those of you that said National Fooball League, you're wrong. One truth about professional sports and life is that nothing last forever. In this sense, NFL stands for not for long. Like they say in medicine, all bleeding eventually comes to a stop. I watched Scarface for like the zillionth time a couple days ago, and I really got to thinking about Tony's monologue about trust. "All I have in this world is my balls and my word, and I don't break them for no one."

That's a powerful line. Given his circumstances it was probably more true than figurative; but generally, those are two things each person has unless they break them too many times. Your word is a very important attribute, in fact in many cases it's your bond to other people. Trust is something that usually takes a while to build up and can be blown in a series of irresponsible events. Without people being able to trust you, all you then have left is your balls, your pride, the ability to put trust in yourself despite outward influences. Similar to your word it takes time to build up pride. Even in relative sense, you have to have accomplished something to be proud of yourself. After accomplishments accumulate, you then have pride, a form of trust in which one trusts itself to accomplish what it has proved capable of.

When people don't trust you it sucks. However, what's even more sad is when you can't trust yourself. Everybody is entitled to their own hubris, an excuse to continue to wallow in hedonism. But if you aren't able to make yourself happy let alone please anybody else, you're have a poor state of affairs.

We all know the old adage, Give a man a fish feed him for a day, teach him how to fish and he'll feed himself for a lifetime. No one ever just learns to fish immediately so you keep providing. Come on, some men aren't fishemen... You give him more fish... until you get to the point of realization that some men just don't want to learn how to fish. Instead of accepting this, we ignore truth and continue the perpetual march of folly. We even force feed fish to those, when they have rejected all sentiments of help directed at them. What's worse still is that you want them to learn so bad that you keep giving handouts to the point that your own family starts starving. You can't provide for anyone forever. Eventually you have to stop supporting those who won't support themselves.

Sink or Swim, because you want to be afloat when the bleeding stops.

Been on a bit of a Fugees tip lately
